Most pool patios have the basics - a deck, some chairs, maybe a table. But when the sun goes down, there's nothing to pull people together. That's the gap a well-built fire feature fills, and it's exactly what this backyard was missing.
We built this fire pit from the ground up using round fieldstone veneer on all four sides. The stones have a natural, hand-selected look that doesn't feel forced or mass-produced. On top, we finished it with a thermal bluestone cap - smooth, clean, and built to handle heat and weather without cracking or fading over time. The blue fire glass in the burner bowl ties the whole thing together against the bluestone perfectly.
The travertine pool patio it sits on gave us a great base to work with. Travertine is one of our go-to materials for pool surrounds because it stays cool underfoot and holds up well in wet environments. Pairing that surface with a custom masonry fire feature creates a space that works all day - from afternoon swims to late-night gatherings.
What makes this kind of build worth doing right is the longevity. A fire pit built with real stone veneer and a natural stone cap isn't going anywhere. It's not a prefab kit you assemble and hope holds up. It's actual masonry - set properly, built to last, and finished in a way that adds real value to the property.
If you've been thinking about adding a fire feature to your pool patio, the material choices matter more than most people realize. The combination of fieldstone, bluestone, and a quality burner setup is one we'd recommend to anyone looking for something that looks great and performs for years.
