Cape Cod Bluestone Patio with Fire Pit and Outdoor Kitchen

This Cape house had a solid bones but nothing behind it - no real outdoor space to speak of. Just a back door leading to a yard. Now it has a full outdoor living setup built around variegated thermal blue stone, a custom brick fire pit with a curved seating wall, and an outdoor kitchen that can handle a crowd.

The stone is the foundation of the whole thing. Thermal bluestone has that natural color variation - blues, greens, warm tans - that gives it a lot more character than plain gray patio stone. The thermal finish also means the surface stays textured and non-slip, which matters on a Cape property where moisture is always in the mix.

The fire pit is the anchor of the patio. We built it in brick with a bluestone cap and wrapped a curved seating wall around the back - it draws people in naturally and creates its own little room within the larger space. That kind of built-in seating is a detail that makes a patio feel intentional rather than thrown together.

On the kitchen side, we used the same brick construction and topped it with granite countertops. Stainless appliances, a sink, refrigerator drawers, access doors - it's a setup you can actually cook on, not just grill. The white pergola over the kitchen ties directly to the larger pergola near the house, so visually everything reads as one connected outdoor space rather than a collection of separate pieces.

What we ended up with here is an outdoor space that genuinely extends how this home gets used. The patio connects the deck, the fire pit area, and the kitchen into one flowing layout. That's the goal on every job like this - everything has to work together.
